Part 7: Final Highlights and Background

Lesson Overview

Skill Level: advanced
Length: 46 Minutes 45 Seconds
Description:

I will be showing how I paint an out of focus background that has multiple depths to bring your subject matter closer. These effects are similar to moving the focus in and out of a camera to add drama and depth to the piece. Most important, it will draw the viewer to focus on your main subject. Your main subject will appear to be jumping out from the background.

Paint for Background: Medium grey of your choice in acrylic. Choose warm instead of cool grey. However, be sure not to have too much magenta in the base of the grey. This chart is a great color source for greys. I like the Flannel Grey and Natural Grey.
