Part 7: Varnishing the Canvas

Lesson Overview

Skill Level: advanced
Length: 7 Minutes 17 Seconds
Description:

Most artists get overwhelmed and nervous about this step in preserving their final work. In this video, I will show you my step by step process of varnishing my canvas, when to scan/photograph the work and how to make sure the finished piece looks beautiful. Varnishing you work can radically change the appearance and value of your work. When framed and ready to go it will look expensive and beautiful. Varnishing can be the last step that takes your work from good to great and preserving it for years to come.

Paint for Background: Medium grey of your choice in acrylic. Choose warm instead of cool grey. However, be sure not to have too much magenta in the base of the grey. This chart is a great color source for greys. I like the Flannel Grey and Natural Grey.
